About Me

Hi, and welcome to my little corner of the 'net! My handle is zmus.

I'm old enough to remember when getting online meant a modem screaming down the phone line while you prayed nobody in the house picked up the extension. Back in the 90s I read 2600 cover to cover, every issue, and I still think a good text file beats a good video.

These days I still run my own server (you're on it), I still think 16-colour ANSI art is the highest form of art, and I still type ATDT when nobody's looking.

What's Here

• The BBS – the welcome screen for zmus' lair, node 01. 80x25, 16 colours, CP437, the way IBM intended.NEW!
• zmus-lair-welcome.ans – that same screen as a real ANSI file (12 KB, with SAUCE). Open it in SyncTERM.
• The text-only version – for Lynx users and purists.
• My Projects – coming soon!

Cool Links

• 2600 Magazine – Still on the newsstand, every quarter, since 1984.
• textfiles.com – Jason Scott's archive of the BBS era. Lose an afternoon here.
• 16colo.rs – Every ANSI art pack you remember, and thousands you don't.
• Telnet BBS Guide – Yes, BBSes are still out there. Hundreds of them.
• SyncTERM – The terminal for calling them.
• BBS: The Documentary – Required viewing.
• The Wayback Machine – For when you miss GeoCities.

The Perl script died in 1999 and I've been meaning to fix it.
